How and why has poetry changed
from the Romantic through to the
Victorian period?
There are many underlying factors for the change that has occurred in poetry from the Romantic through to the Victorian period. There was a big change in the social structure mainly due to the industrial revolution. This is because the opening of a middle class gave way for people to come forward with their own views and ideas, poetry was a way to express views in the matter of change that was occurring, which is why literature was more realistic. The Romantics focused on the deeper and subconscious meaning that were brought together with the power of nature and imagination entwined with beauty. New ideas and beliefs were beginning to materialise during the Victorian period, it became a time were traditional values and religious beliefs were questioned.
